Tyler Rake is the protagonist in the movies Extraction and Extraction 2. He is portrayed by Chris Hemsworth.

Biography

Tyler Rake is from Australia. He is a former Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) operator turned mercenary who often specialized in extraction operations and assassinations.

He was married to Mia and had a child. While he was away on one of his tours in the military, Rake lost his son to lymphoma. The loss caused a schism between him and Mia, which eventually led to their divorce.

After his son's death and his divorce, Rake left the military and became a freelance mercenary and contract killer. At some point, he came across Nik Khan, who offered him a place on her team, and the two would often work together on missions and grew close. Along the way, he also met Gaspar, and the two became good friends, with Rake saving Gaspar's life at one point.

Receiving a job

After returning from a camping trip with Rata and Koen in the Kimberly, Rake was greeted by Nik Khan at his shed, where she informed him that they "landed the whale." When Rake inquired, Khan explained that she had a high-risk, high-reward extraction job for him involving a drug lord's son in Dhaka. Rake expressed interest, initially believing he could work with his fellow mercenary Gaspar during the job, but Khan quickly noted that Gaspar was "out of the game." Rake accepted the job, but Khan warned him further that Amir Asif's influence within Dhaka would make the job "complicated," to which Rake said that it was always complicated. Realizing that Rake was suicidal and that he wanted to take the job hoping he would die during it, Khan claimed that going to him was "a mistake," and went to leave. Before she could leave however, Rake asked her why she was there, believing that she only asked him about the job because she knew no one else would accept it. Khan asked what his motives for taking the job were, to which Rake responded that he needed the money, and jokingly stated that chickens weren't cheap. Khan saw through Rake's attempt to mask his pain with humor, and revealed she knew he was suicidal and was only taking the job because he had nothing to lose.

She told him that she'd meet him in Fitzroy Crossing the next morning, and told him not to show up if he wasn't going to arrive sober. As Khan left, Rake inquired about his target's name, and she then informed him that his target's name was Ovi Mahajan, and told him to keep his "head on straight" before finally departing. Rake then walked to his door, where he sat in the door frame and watched as Khan's helicopter took off.

Rake asks Kalam for proof that Mahajan is alive

Nik Khan and her team contacted Kalam, a member of Amir Asif's criminal organization, in order to pay the ransom. In order to find Mahajan, Rake went to meet them under the guise that he was going to pau the ransom. Before he could react, a van pulled up behind him and he was forced into it and blindfolded. Rake was taken to the building where they held Mahajan captive, and he asked for proof that Mahajan is alive. While being escorted out of the building, Gaetan sniped a mercenary in the head, and Rake used the distraction to overpower and choke the other mercenary to death. Rake returned with an AK-47 and killed everyone using a combination of his marksmanship and skill in close-quarters combat, and managed to successfully rescue Mahajan.

Failed extraction

After Rake successfully rescued Mahajan, they headed towards the extraction point where Thiago was waiting with a boat. However, Saju Rav snuck onto the boat and killed everyone one board, and later flanked Gaetan and killed him too. Nik Khan realized that her team members had been killed, and quickly warned Rake that he wasn't alone, and that they had been set up. Then the corrupt Bangladeshi police officers, indirectly working for Amir Asif under the Colonel, pursued Rake and Mahajan. Rake fled with Mahajan and fought off several corrupt officers, as well as Rav himself. However, all the fighting and combat left Rake exhausted and injured, so Rake and Mahajan intentionally crashed a truck they were driving in order to try and fool their pursuers into believing they were dead, although this didn't fool Asif.

Calling Gaspar

After Rake beats up Farhad and his group the corrupt Bangladeshi Police officers spot him and Ovi Mahajan JR. Then he goes into the sewer to escape from the police officers. Then Tyler Rake calls Nik Khan and says her to contact Gaspar who lives in Dhaka. Nik says it is not a good Idea ,Rake says that he owes his life then Gaspar comes and rescues him and takes Take to his safehouse. Afterwards Gaspar contacts Amir Asif ,and returns and says to Rake that Ovi is walking corpse and the only thing we could to that kid is bullet in the brain . Rake asks did he call someone then Gaspar confesses himself ,and says the bounty 's price tag of Ovi is ten million dollars . A brutual fight happends between Gaspar and Rake ,but Gaspar gets the upperhand as Rake is injured ,hearing the loud noice Ovi comes with a gun then Gaspar attacks Ovi But Ovi shoots him. After Gaspar's death Ovi cries and hugs Rake and says he wanna go home ,Rake says that he will rescue him to his home . Rake gets the memory of his son and a father son relationship happens between him and Ovi.

Contacting Saju Rav

After Ovi Mahajan JR kills Gaspar . Tyler decides to get Ovi home at any cost . Rake contacts Saju Rav To help him get Ovi back to his home . Saju and Rake meet each other and Saju says Ovi's father was about to kill his family if he did not bring His son back . Tyler Rake says he only cares about Ovi Mahajan JR to get him home. Rake says his team is on the other Side of The Sultana Kamal Bridge Saju and Rake Work together To Get Ovi home

Faking his death

After clearing Sultana Kamal Bridge successfully, Tyler Rake is exhausted from the fight and is heavily injured. Ovi is successfully rescued by Khan and her PMC's. As Tyler crosses the bridge, limping, he is shot through the neck by an unseen fighter, which is then revealed to be Farhad. the shot rips through his throat, and he starts to bleed profusely from the wound and Mouth. Barley able to stand, Rake sits on the edge of the bridge, giving Ovi a long look, before toppling over the edge of the bridge into the water. Ovi cries and tries to make his way to Tyler, but is stopped by Khan and her PMC's. They then use Yak's helicopter to escape. Farhad looks to see Tyler is dead to confirm his kill, but Tyler being Tyler, holds his breath under the water and fakes his death. 8 months later Ovi is seen swimming in his school and he sees a figure similar to Tyler but it is completely blurred.

Throughout Extraction 2

Receiving a job

Rake barely survives, taken to a hospital in Dubai, where he recovers for 9 months to retire in Austria. At some point, Rake meets Alcott at his cabin in Austria. Alcott offers him a job. Rake dismisses him and tells him to leave, but when Alcott mentions Mia, Rake’s ex-wife. He takes the job to rescue his former sister-in-law Ketevan and her children from a Georgian prison. It doesn't go as planned as Davit and the prisoners wake up, causing a riot to happen in the prison. He and Ketevan are able to give the kids to Yaz, but Davit attacks them, though Rake manages to kill him and now tries to get through the riot between the prisoners and the guards and are able to escape safely. As they escape the prison, Zurab's men attack and chase them and when they're at the extraction train but are able to escape to Vienna. When they reach the docks, Sandro, Ketevan's teenage son, realizes Rake killed his father and gets enraged

Abilities

• Peak physical condition: Due to his training in the SASR and work as a mercenary, Rake is in top physical condition.
  • Peak endurance: Perhaps one of Rake's most prominent characteristics is his incredible endurance. Rake is able to fight for long periods of time against waves of enemies and still come out on top. Although he does noticeably tire while fighting for prolonged periods of time, he is still able to maintain himself and carry on fighting. He has even continued fighting after being shot, having enough stamina to continue shooting down many corrupt officers. He has also endured falling off of a balcony and being hit by a car shortly after.
  • Peak reflexes: Rake possesses extraordinarily fast reflexes, allowing him to quickly react to opponents. During his knife fight with Saju Rav, he was able to dodge all of Rav's swings and counter them.
  • Peak respiration: Rake is able to hold his breath for extensive periods of time. To train himself to hold his breath, he would dive off of cliffs and sink to the bottom of the lake underneath and sit in a cross-legged position. He used this ability to fool Farhad into thinking he was dead by staying submerged underneath the Shitalakysha River after he fell off of the Sultana Kamal Bridge.

Rake engages in a knife fight with Rav

• Master combatant: As a former SASR soldier, Rake possesses extraordinary combat abilities, being able to easily outmatch most opponents he encounters and defeat large groups of enemies through his hand-to-hand combat skills alone. Rake's fighting style appears to incorporate elements of Boxing, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Wrestling.
  • Knife mastery: Rake is also highly skilled with using knives in combat, and is an exceptional knife fighter, being able to disarm Rav of his weapon when they fought. His skill in using knives in combat, including his disarming abilities, as well as his blade of choice being a karambit, shows a possible background in the Filipino martial art of Arnis.
• Master tactician: Rake is an incredibly skilled military tactician, being able to plan escape routes, exit strategies, extraction plans, and is able to make adjustments to his plans on the fly if a situation doesn't go as planned.
• Master marksman: Due to his years as an SASR soldier and mercenary, Rake is highly proficient in the use of firearms. He is extremely accurate and precise with his shots, and he is able to efficiently switch between his sidearm and rifle with ease.
• Expert assassin: Rake is an excellent assassin, having carried out several assassinations during his career as a mercenary.
• Expert driver: Rake is an expert driver, being able to use vehicles to make quick escapes and evade several pursuing police cars during a chase.
• Multilingual: Besides his native English, Tyler is fluent in Georgian due to his family and is shown to understand German while watching a TV show at his home in Austria and Bengali to some extent while negotiating with Kalam in Dhaka.

• Glock 17: Tyler Rake used his Glock 17 as his sidearm for whenever his primary weapon was unavailable.

Tyler Rake with his BCM CQB-11 rifle

• BCM CQB-11: Rake uses this weapon when he rescues Ovi and heads towards the extraction point near the river. Later, Saju Rav kills the team on the boat and Rake fights Saju with his BCM CQB-11. This a customized rifle, with BCM furniture including BCMGunfighter Mod 0 stock and a Vertical Grip Mod 3, a suppressor, an Eotech holographic optic, a 3x magnifier, and Steiner Offset tactical Aiming Laser.
• Daniel Defense M4A1: Rake's primary weapon throughout the movie, he uses a Daniel Defense M4A1 suppressed rifle. He uses it in many occasions, such as fighting against the corrupt Bangladeshi police officers. Rake uses it until the end of the movie. The rifle has 5.56 white laser markings on the left side of the receiver which are visible when he reloads. The weapon also has an LMT SOPMOD stock and a Leupold HAMR scope.
• AK-47: After infiltrating the building where Ovi Mahajan Jr. was being help captive, Rake used an AK-47 from a mercenary he had killed to fight against and kill the remaining mercenaries and rescue Ovi.
• M79 grenade launcher: In order to cause a diversion and provide cover, Rake used an M79 grenade launcher while fighting the corrput Bangladeshi law enforcement so that Saju Rav could escape with Ovi Mahajan Jr. across the Sultana Kamal Bridge.
• Karambit: Rake used this knife while fighting Saju Rav.
• Grenades: Tyler Rake uses grenades on several occasions, such as against Saju Rav and also against the corrupt Bangladeshi police officers.

Weapons used in Extraction 2

• Glock 21 (Agency Arms Custom): Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) mainly carries an Agency Arms Glock 21 (4th generation) as his sidearm. Modifications include a stippled frame, custom flat face trigger, a milled slide with front serrations and a cut for a Trijicon RMR, a threaded barrel (occasionally fitted with a Rugged suppressor) and a Surefire X300 Ultra weaponlight
• SIG-Sauer P320: Yaz Khan carries a SIG-Sauer P320 XFIVE Legion with a mounted red dot sight during the extraction and uses it during the firefight at the Vienna safe house. Tyler Rake also uses the P320.
• Daniel Defense M4V7S: Tyler Rake is seen using a custom-made rifle that mainly resembles a Daniel Defense M4V7S with an EOTech EXPS-3, G33 magnifier, AN-PEQ 15 laser module, Modlite weaponlight, BCM Gunfighter vertical grip, a suppressor with a cloth cover, and a Magpul SL stock.
• V Seven Harbinger : Tyler Rake is seen carrying an AR-10 type rifle identified by ISS (the movie's armorers) as a V Seven Harbinger with a M-LOK handguard, outfitted with a Leupold LPVO optic, Surefire Scout light, BE Meyers MAWL laser module, BCM Gunfighter vertical grip during the shootout in Vienna.
• Heckler & Koch MP5A3 : In preparation to face off with Zurab, Tyler grabs weapons and equipment out of weapon crates which includes a Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine gun with a Surefire 628 forend and SEF trigger grouping, however he does not pick it up.
• FN M240 Machine Gun : Tyler Rake picks up an FN M240B Machine Gun with a Trijicon ACOG and sling out of a weapons crate and fires it at several mercenary helicopters.
• Dillon Aero M134 Minigun : A handheld Dillon Aero M134 Minigun is seen next to a dead extraction team member on top of the train driver cabin which Tyler Rake then picks up to fire at the mercenary helicopter. A Nagazi mercenary on board a helicopter opens fire on Tyler and the team with a mounted Dillon Aero M134 Minigun.
• Brügger & Thomet GL-06 : A Brügger & Thomet GL-06 grenade launcher is seen given to Tyler to use to blow the gate open during the extraction from the prison.
• MGL Mk 1S : Tyler Rake uses what appears to be a Milkor MGL Mk 1S grenade launcher with a M4 LE buttstock in the final shootout.
• FN Mk 13 EGLM : Tyler Rake picks up a tan standalone FN EGLM grenade launcher during the apartment attack, but doesn’t fire it and leaves it behind.
